Overview

Any non-Russian person visiting Russia is puzzled by the view of wedding processions, stopping here and there, and having fun. It’s a peculiar Russian tradition and in Saint-Petersburg wedding rituals are even more diverse. Starting from quite commonplace breaking of champagne glasses, setting free a pair of doves and bringing flowers to most important & symbolic city’s places and to specific - walking across certain bridges, touching the toes of certain statues. Each has a certain figurative meaning or pursue a certain goal. For example, to become rich the newlyweds should put their fingers into the mouth of one of the gryphon statues on University embankment, a legendary creature with the body of a lionand the head and wings of an eagle. As the lion was traditionally considered the king of the beasts and the eagle was the king of the birds, the griffin was thought to be an especially powerful and majestic creature. Griffins are normally known for guarding treasure and well valued priceless possession.
Many of these traditions have roots that go back to the origins of the city and should be performed at its certain places. These are the city’s most important and beautiful places, with long history, its power points. So during this tour you’ll get a chance to get acquainted with the city, to feel its soul.
