Revolution of 1917

The State Museum of Russian Political History was founded in 1919 and today houses in the former mansion of Matilda Kshesinskaya, prima-ballerina of the Mariinsky Theater. The Museum stocks are accounted about 500.000 units. The Russian Revolution of 1917 totally changed the traditional way of Russia's life and began a new page of history. It was the collective term for a series of revolutions in Russia in 1917, which destroyed the Tsarist autocracy and led to the creation of the Soviet Union.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Siege of Leningrad

The Siege of Leningrad was a prolonged military operation by the German Army Group North and the Finnish Defence Forces to capture Leningrad in the Eastern Front theatre. Baltic fleet, consolidation of the naval forces of Russia - USSR - Russian Federation, based on the Baltic Sea, was ordinary built up by Tsar Peter I during the Northern War of 1700-21.

The Artillery Museum is a state-owned military museum. Since 1869 its collections, founded by Peter I of Russia in 1703 and consisting of Russian and foreign military equipment, uniform and decorations. Although Russian Orthodox is the major religion in Russia, St. Petersburg is a center for many faiths. Besides Russian Orthodox, temples here represent the Lutheran, Catholic, and Baptist churches. There is also a beautiful mosque and a famous synagogue.

During the 19th - the beginning of the 20th century a small community of Jews turned into a rich, prosperous and powerful community, which influenced all the processes related to the life of Russian Jews and actually formed the spiritual and religious life of the country's Jewry.
